For this project, I wanted to explore the concept of home through my own. I’ve been interested in ideas of authenticity and human experience. So, I used my passed-down Sony Coolpix camera to take photos around my house. I grew up in this house, but I don’t often go exploring within it.
As I walked around, I noticed things. Things I pass by everyday but were left unnoticed. Things I actually didn’t know were there. Things that were old and weathered. Things that were odd but made our home uniquely ours. Things that were by nature, uninteresting. As well as things that were simply beautiful to me. I wanted to capture some of these things as authentically as possible and curate a kind of house tour through a series of images.
While working on this project, I felt I found beauty and connection to even the littlest, most insignificant things. Anything can be special, given life and a purpose. Everything has a story.
For me, home represents something or someone that feels familiar and safe. It’s where or when we feel most like ourselves: without pretenses or masks, simply just me. The house I have lived in for so long is a home to me, and I hope my adoration for it is conveyed through this project. I encourage you to take the time to appreciate your own homes as well!
